Pacific Rim Review
Who doesn't like giant robots right? Even the most passionate haters of Michael Bay's transformers movies cannot deny the appeal that is huge roboots beating the shit out of each other. For some ungodly reason, robots especially mechas (human piloted robots) have gotten little to none screentime over the years. Well, what if i told you that there is a movie that has these giant-ass robots, AND they are beating the living crap out of Gozilla type sea monsters? How isn't that the best movie premise ever?
The story is alright, but nothing to write home about. And that's to be expected, i mean its a movie about giant monsters and robots what the fuck were you expecting? Basically these Monsters called Kaiju (japanese for a giant monster) come out of the sea and mankind has to stop them. By making... robots? You can see how the films director was influenced by anime and such, since almost all of the damn characters fall in to the most stereotypical archetypes ever. There is your reluctant main good guy, his rival but in the end an alright guy, the potential love interest girl character, and who could not forget the authority figure, this time played by Idris Elba, who delivers one of the most badass speeches i have ever heard

The movie comes from the director Guillermo Del Toro, who's know for directing Hellboy for example. I can really appreciate what him and the team did here. Unlike Transformers, Pacific Rims mechs actually feel huge unlike slightly bigger humans. There is a ton of detail to the mechs and monsters. You can see a ton of moving parts and lights that just shows how well this movie is made. And when the fighting starts you can almost feel every impact.
Maybe it's just me being bad at reviewing movies or this movie is kinda hard to explain. In my opinion its the perfect summer movie. Dumb fun to watch with your friends going: "holy shit" and; "yeaaaah!" while cool stuff is happening on the screen. Although i love mechs and giant monsters its not a movie for everyone so be advised. Pacific rim is currently available on Netflix, so absolutely nothing should be keeping you from watching this and having a great time for the next 1.5 hours or so. GO WATCH IT!
SCORE: 9/10
